The perfect vegan staycation in Bangkok

Being based in the region, we are lucky to enjoy frequent weekends and staycations in Bangkok. As vegan foodies, these visits always revolve around where we are going to eat and where best to stay to access our favourite vegan eateries. For us, staying in and around the Sukhumvit area provides easy access to countless vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants, and if we wish to travel further afield, a short walk to the BTS makes this simple. However, with so many hotels to choose from in the vicinity, we are truly spoilt for choice. On our most recent vegan staycation in Bangkok, we decided to check out two new hotels to see what they had to offer. Of course, both had vegan and plant-based options, so in addition to enjoying our rooms, the service, and relaxing by the pool, we were in town to eat vegan food – lots of it.

Stay at Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, Sukhumvit 15

By choosing to stay at Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, you not only get to enjoy a modern hotel in the centre of Bangkok, but if you time your staycation correctly, you can experience their expansive and utterly delicious vegan and vegetarian brunch buffet. We must admit, this was the main reason for our recent trip – when we read about its launch in early 2025, we knew we had to visit sooner rather than later.

The hotel itself is just a short walk from BTS Asok and BTS Nana, making it a perfect option for business travellers or those keen to explore the many restaurants, bars, and shopping opportunities in the Sukhumvit area. The hotel features modern, well-appointed rooms, a rooftop pool that offers respite from the bustling streets below, and The Eatery, where the vegan brunch buffet is available to guests and non-guests alike.

The first vegan and vegetarian brunch buffet in Bangkok

On the second and fourth Saturday of each month, the vegan and vegetarian brunch buffet at Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, Sukhumvit 15, has to be seen to be believed.

Thai curries, salads, and soups? Pizzas, pastas, and lasagne? Indian curries, burritos, and sushi? Dumplings, shepherd’s pie, and risotto? Cruelty Free Chicken (CFC) made from lion’s mane mushrooms? A locally made vegan cheese station? A live som tam station? Expect all of this and more.

And that’s without mentioning dessert. Stacks of signature brownies, a lavish chocolate tart, and salted caramel cheesecake. Thai desserts with rainbow-coloured jellies and, of course, mango sticky rice. Fruits, a chocolate fountain, biscuits, and vegan ice cream with waffle cones and all the toppings.

In our years of vegan travel, we’ve seen a lot, we’ve eaten a lot, but nothing prepared us for this. The heady excitement of choice, of knowing that people care enough to prepare food like this (with such imagination and vision) was truly indulgent, celebratory, and inspiring. Needless to say, we’ve already scheduled our return to enjoy what Chef Par, Chef Pae, and their teams have created.

Veganerie, the first 100% vegan bakery in Bangkok

With their first store opening in 2016, the family team behind Veganerie are true trailblazers in Bangkok’s vegan food scene. Nearly ten years later, and with multiple locations to choose from, no trip to Bangkok is complete for us without at least one visit to Veganerie.

We headed to their Sukhumvit Soi 11 outlet, just a five-minute walk from Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, and ordered the ‘Fruity Delight Waffles’ which were indeed fruity and delightful. In addition to their waffles, desserts, and bakery options, the extensive menu features breakfast and brunch, burgers and wraps, salads, pastas, curries, and soups. Rest assured, you will have plenty to choose from at this Bangkok vegan institution.

Stay at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok

We also stayed at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, which is located directly on Sukhumvit Road in the heart of the city, adjacent to the bustling Asoke intersection.

From our arrival in the elegant and spacious lobby on the seventh floor to our luxuriously appointed ‘Westin Executive Club King’ room, we were impressed with what this five-star luxury hotel had to offer. Just a short walk from many of our favourite vegan eateries and both the BTS and MRT stations, we loved the location. We also loved the pool on the eighth floor, where we could rest and relax between all the eating we had planned. It was great that we didn’t have to leave The Westin Grande Sukhumvit to find plant-based food, as each of their restaurants either had vegetarian options that could be adapted or clearly labelled plant-based and vegan dishes available.

Whilst staying at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, we enjoyed vegan welcome amenities in our room, which started our stay in such a positive way. We had informed the hotel that we were vegan before arrival, and this information had clearly been passed on to the team responsible for welcome amenities based on Marriott Bonvoy status. Lunch at Kisso, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant, was a treat.

Dining in one of their private rooms, we enjoyed a vegetarian bento box from the set lunch menu, which was adapted to be vegan – and it was outstanding. The tempura was lightly fried and super crispy, the avocado salad with a creamy sesame dressing was healthy and nutritious, and the tofu steak with mushrooms was packed with umami. The textures and flavours in our bento box combined to deliver an excellent plant-based dining experience.

Seasonal Tastes, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, featured a dedicated plant-based section on the à la carte menu, offering a selection of vegan dishes including a plant-based burger and Thai classics such as green curry, pad krapow, and pad Thai.

We sampled all three and were thoroughly impressed. The pad krapow, made with Let’s Plant Meat, was rich and flavoursome, while the pad Thai had plenty of tofu for that extra protein hit.

Vegan sushi, tacos and burgers at Golden State Vegan

Just a 15-minute walk from our ‘home’ at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit is one of our favourite vegan eateries in Bangkok. Serving a selection of vegan sushi, tacos, burgers, and small bites accompanied by cocktails, craft beers, and live music at weekends, Golden State Vegan is well worth a visit. The sushi is outstanding, as are the burgers, but our favourite dish has to be the tacos – specifically, the ‘Crispy Oyster Mushroom’ tacos, which we simply couldn’t leave Bangkok without enjoying one more time.

Mercy Republic, the new kid on the block

With Bangkok’s vegan dining scene expanding rapidly, we always aim to visit at least one new vegan eatery each time we’re in town. On our latest trip, we headed to Mercy Republic, which opened towards the end of 2024 and is conveniently located in the Sukhumvit area. This seriously cool restaurant serves ‘vegan Thai fusion street food’ against a backdrop of iconic vegan musicians on the walls and a soundtrack of funky hip-hop and R&B. We loved the vibes, the incredibly welcoming staff, and, of course, the outstanding food. We enjoyed a creamy curry, homemade tofu, and ‘Mercy Croquettes’ made with mushrooms and potato. Our meal was washed down with a couple of Heineken 0.0’s, making for the perfect night out. There’s a whole lot of passion behind Mercy Republic, and it’s a welcome addition to the Bangkok vegan scene.

Despite non-stop eating during our vegan staycation in Bangkok, we’ve barely scratched the surface of this exciting and ever-expanding vegan food scene. Both Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, Sukhumvit 15, and The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok, not only offered their own vegan options but were also perfectly located to visit many of our favourite vegan restaurants. Finally, did we mention the vegan brunch buffet at Four Points? Head there as soon as you can – you won’t be disappointed!
